Happy New Year guys! :)
My latest site is pretty much finished www.eldat.pl. It's basically a product showcase for the Polish distributor of ELDAT products - automation and radio control systems. Some implementations are quite interesting. The tedious part of the work was translating all of the information from the original German website. Drupal made the process a bit easier though, using custom content type.
I was thinking about taking further steps in web development. While working on ELDAT, I noticed there is a lack of functionality to show nodes tagged with taxonomy term in taxonomy menu module. That is quite important when building site navigation based on taxonomy. Consider a menu item products, which lists all product types, which then lists all product items in the product type. So a navigation example might be: Products > radio controlled swithes > RT21 Micro Switch. Now that last element won't be a part of the taxonomy - based menu, because it is not a taxonomy term, but a node (in Drupal). This is definietely an important case... and will probably be my first module. Learning PHP (and Python) is a must. Probably, it will be a lot of fun as well.
See, when reading a newspaper just before Christmas, I came across that article about MITx. That will be an online education platform, hosted by MIT. Not giving diplomas, but certificates of course mastery. I already have a MA, so probably certificates of MIT course completion will be sufficient for whatever purpose (dreaming of a doctorate :) ). Yeah... we'll see about that. While reading about MITx, I found that MIT already has posted almost all of their courses online through OpenCourseWare. I think that's just awesome.
About work - I currently am starting work on three simultaneous projects: two websites and one website + online shop. I guess self - organisation and work discipline are key to nail all that down. As I wrote in an earlier post, I will create all those with the HTML5 Omega theme on Drupal 7. The shop will be created with Ubercart, because the ecommerce module isn't released for d7 yet and it seems that Ubercart has more community and third party support. Will be posting updates here. There's that last thing. I applied for a tender to create a CRM for an NGO. Maybe, just maybe, my offer will get chosen. What was cool about that tender was the client needs Computer Telephony Integration (CTI). Now, that will be interesting.
